- Compensation: $83,200 to $104,000 annually, plus benefits
This role is exclusively for direct hires on W2 and is not open to C2C or third-party arrangements.
Summary
The System Engineer will support the end-to-end infrastructure for Microsoft’s Hardware Engineering and Testing efforts, including hardware configuration, validation, troubleshooting, and automation. This role requires hands-on expertise in system engineering, scripting, and physical infrastructure management.
Primary Responsibilities Include
System Engineering
- Configure Debug and Production nodes physically and logically on the platform.
- Validate and update firmware (BIOS, BMC, NIC, PSU, FPGA, ARM SoC) to recipe levels.
- Develop test automation/utility tools using Python scripting.
- Perform rack-and-stack operations for servers and kits in cabinets.
- Install, remove, debug, and troubleshoot hardware within the data center.
- Analyze test results and report hardware-related bugs.
- Remotely upgrade ARM SoC images via RM for Lab and Production nodes.
- Develop and test automation scripts (Python, PowerShell, shell scripting).
- Post-process, analyze, and report data findings.
- Document steps and snapshots for benchmarking processes.
Physical Infrastructure Management
- Coordinate vendor and logistics support for deployments.
- Manage and deploy racks, network equipment, power distribution units, and monitoring tools.
- Build and deploy servers with wiring, configuration, and monitoring setups.
- Design and implement cabling and power solutions for hardware support.
- Perform server disassembly and reassembly (must lift up to 35lbs repeatedly).
Administration & Support
- Administer servers, VMs, and private networks/testing domains (e.g., Hyper-V, AD with DNS).
- Troubleshoot and resolve software and hardware infrastructure issues.
- Intake requests for issue resolutions, changes, and implementations.
- Support hardware validation and qualification projects, including bench test setups.
- Enable remote workers for physical dependency tasks.
- Configure test equipment like oscilloscopes for validation purposes.
- Coordinate with ODM/ISV for onsite physical rework tasks, such as firmware flashing or board soldering.
